Market of the Week – Non-Paying

If your fiction is reminiscent of Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler or James Cain, then it’s time to dust off your hard-boiled short stories and send them in to this week’s non-paying market.

Beat to a Pulp home page

Beat to a Pulp publishes one story per week online.  The pieces are better than many you’ll find in other non-paying ‘zines, and their editorial team gets good reviews from submitters, largely because they take the time to add that personal touch to about a third of their rejections and apparently they aren’t jackasses about it.

From their Guidelines page: “Our primary focus is hardboiled but we also accept action/adventure, westerns, sci-fi/fantasy, horror/thriller, etc. No yarns with bigotry or overt political agendas.

No more than 4,000 words. Anything longer, please query first.”

So there it is.  Get the baby out of the icebox, put that falcon statue in the dumpster where it belongs, and submit your shorts already.
